Whereas, Western Michigan University provides transportation to academic colleges located away from main campus. Whereas, the students within the College of Aviation have historically been denied an effective means of transportation. Whereas, this is the second such resolution to come before this senate. During the last session, a resolution was passed which created a bussing system funded wholly by the University. This bussing system ceased operation at the end of the 2008-2009 academic year. Whereas, the administration of the College of Aviation sees the need for an effective transportation system, and has created an improved and useful system. The funding for this system is only partially subsidized by the University. Whereas, the students of the College of Aviation, having classes in Battle Creek or not, are required to pay a $75 semesterly fee to cover the outstanding budget deficit. The students of the College of Aviation are paying into a bussing system by default (in their tuition), it is unequal and unjust. Be it resolved, Western Michigan University will wholly fund the transportation system to the college of aviation. Be it further resolved, Western Michigan University will work closely with the administration and students of the College of Aviation to finalize an effective, useful method of transportation to the Battle Creek campus.
